Casual Dating in Australia: On Your Own Terms

City, coast or country town, you choose the ages you see. Further down: how to get tested and where to report a scam.

2021 Census

Who Has the House to Themselves?

At the 2021 Census, 25.6% of Australian households held just one person, says the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

  • The ABS puts the average household at 2.5 people in 2021, down from 2.6 in 2016.
  • At the same Census, the ABS counted 439,994 people aged 55 to 64, and 993,465 aged 65 and over, living alone.
  • At the 2021 Census the ABS also counted 516,146 people aged 55 to 64 as divorced and another 149,044 as separated.

Plenty of people have the house to themselves, then. On Naughty Seniors, other members see only the nearest town or city you give, never a street address or a live location.

Beyond the capitals

Where Do Older Australians Live?

At 30 June 2025, says the ABS, people aged 55 and over made up 26% of the population in the capital cities and 35% in the rest of Australia. The median age was 37.0 in the capitals and 42.1 elsewhere. In the same figures, the highest shares of residents aged 65 and over were in these coastal areas:

  1. Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest, New South Wales

    54.9%

  2. Bribie Island, Queensland

    48.3%

  3. Cooloola, Queensland

    46.2%

  4. Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff, Victoria

    45.6%

  5. Paynesville, Victoria

    45.3%

Getting tested

Clinic Rules Vary, So Ask First

These examples from NSW Health and healthdirect all report no charge, but referral and appointment details differ from clinic to clinic. The healthdirect Brisbane listing says to call the service before visiting.

New South Wales
NSW Health calls its sexual health clinics “government funded specialist services caring for vulnerable populations”. It says appointments carry no charge and need no Medicare card or GP referral. That is NSW Health’s wording for NSW clinics.
Brisbane
A healthdirect listing for the Brisbane sexual health and HIV service shows no fee, no Medicare card needed and an appointment required. A GP referral may be required but is not essential for most services.
Priority groups
A healthdirect listing for a Western Sydney clinic says it offers confidential testing and treatment at no charge to priority populations, and that other people may be referred to a GP or another service.
Your GP
NSW Health says GPs are the doctors most people see for an STI test. The NSW Sexual Health Infolink is 1800 451 624, 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday.

Where to Report a Dating Scam in Australia

Scamwatch, which the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) runs, has a form for reporting any suspicious contact or activity (read from an archived copy dated 7 October 2026).

If the scam involved cybercrime, ReportCyber, on the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s website, takes reports of cybercrime, incidents and vulnerabilities (read from an archived copy dated 6 October 2026).

In danger now? Call your local emergency number first.

Then block the member and report the profile on Naughty Seniors. The dating scams guide lists the warning signs, and the safety page covers the protections the site runs.

Questions From Australia

Do I need a referral to get tested for STIs in Australia?

It depends on the clinic. NSW Health describes its sexual health clinics as government funded specialist services caring for vulnerable populations, and says no Medicare card or GP referral is required for appointments. A healthdirect listing for a Brisbane service says a referral may be required but is not essential for most services. Call first.

How do I report a dating scam in Australia?

Scamwatch, which the ACCC runs, has a form for reporting any suspicious contact or activity, and ReportCyber, on the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s website, takes cybercrime reports (both read from an archived copy of each site, dated 7 and 6 October 2026). If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. Then block the member and report the profile on the site.

Can I filter by city and distance?

VIP members can filter by city and distance. For everyone else, the daily suggestions weigh how close each person is and how recently they were active, alongside the age range you set. The features page lists what each membership level adds.

Can I join Naughty Seniors from Australia?

Yes. See the pricing page for the plans; the fee for the one you select appears on the payment page. You set the age range yourself, and the site runs in your phone’s browser.
